This year's Shanghai Television Festival raised its curtain on June 9th, with the theme, "We Are Here, the Responsibility of Media." In the first event, five journalists who reported from the frontlines during the aftermath of the Sichuan earthquake shared their personal experiences and discussed their views on the responsibility of media.

Confronted with the disaster, China's television and radio stations made an aggressive effort to cover the earthquake. Hundreds of reporters were sent to Sichuan within hours to provide non-stop coverage.

The Shanghai Television Festival also highlighted the 50th anniversary of China's TV industry. Media insiders discussed the development of Chinese Television and forecasted its future.
