More than Jazz
ICS - 8:00 PM Sunday, weekly More than Jazz is a program primarily focused on Jazz music, yet it covers so much more. More Than Jazz – the name speaks for itself. It's the first music program specializing in jazz in Chinese Mainland. Combining the historical and cultural background of Shanghai, with its unique appreciation for art, the show is aimed at well-educated white-collar English-speaking or bi-lingual audiences, who share a high-level demand for artistic appreciation. The program is dedicated to the deep understanding and interpreting of jazz and other related genres of music, creating a widened and comprehensive concept of Jazz. More than Jazz provides insight into the origins of jazz by inviting professional musicians to tell the legends of music's "greats", and discuss some of their classic pieces. Each week the show invites outstanding groups, from both China and abroad, to give exclusive performances for the viewing audience. In our "Tip" section, we entertain audiences with active and natural explanations by advanced players on the concepts, techniques, or instruments related to Jazz, encouraging viewers to try first-hand. Besides jazz, all kinds of music can find their stage here. We welcome all outstanding musical groups (international, local, non-jazz, or pan-jazz) to perform their original music on More than Jazz. Most of the musicians appearing on More than Jazz agree: "Jazz has always been 'More than Jazz", since it's constantly blending in other styles of music, and performances change from day to day – Jazz will always be new." All of this is what More than Jazz represents.
