These three students come from the University of California, Los Angeles - better known as U-C-L-A. They are among more than 60 students doing a photo-essay called 24 hours here in Shanghai. They have to come up with a fresh perspective on the monuments, cityscapes, and landscapes they run across. Their first stop…the Expo park.
Davin is no stranger to the Expo park.
Each focuses on a theme during the 24-hour event. Davin told us that his focus is environmental protection, especially sustainability and green technology. He says he's especially impressed with the Norway pavilion.
Christine is especially interested in food.
Their second stop was an old Shanghai neighborhood. They like it, even though most of the group had never seen that kind of housing before. But Lisa, whose parents are Shanghainese, can even talk with people in Shanghai dialect.
And of course the group can't miss The Bund. Lisa had been here many times before… but not since the latest renovation.
The students will be here for a month, and are focusing on learning Chinese and studying the World Expo. The thirty-nine students from UCLA are studying alongside eight students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which gives them rich cross-cultural and educational opportunities.
We love Shanghai, we love Expo.
