Hi... I'm cathy... your tech angel here today... to show you a moving house is NOT impossible in modern life. In fact... it's standing right behind me in Zone E of the Expo Park in Puxi. First... I want to give you an idea of the size of it. Three steps... and you walk one side of it.
Occupying slightly more than 9 square meters... the building made by the Portugese is called a TTT... or transportable tourist tower. Small indeed... it's got everything. Kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor... office and sitting room on the second... and the bedroom on the top... with a pretty good view.
I could totally live in a home like this. It's comfortable. But just one thing. It's called TRANSPORTABLE tower. Well... it's apparently much smaller than an ordinary home... but I can't see how it can actually move.
The main point of the building is modularity... or these blocks that can be seperated from each other while moving. Instead of relying on balloons, the TTT can turn to more conventional modes of transportation... such as trucks... ships... and helicopters. And... you can design your house by putting in place the exact number of blocks you want... both horizontally... and vertically. So the space of your home... and even the whole city can change all the time.
OK then... that makes it possible to move the house... but without electricity it's still barely a home. And because it's transportable... it doesn't have fixed electricity wiring. So... what makes this happen?
The secret lies in the timber-glass walls... a special system called Et3... that can reuse energy from outside to light the inside. The photovoltaic glass directly transforms the sun radiation into electrical energy. The timber parts contribute to thermal transfer... air circulation and natural lighting levels.
For now... the home is still a concept. No one is actually living in a house like this yet. But who knows? With the pace of technology at the moment, maybe you'll live in a house like this in the future.
